At the beginning of 2022, Beth (our Community Hub Family Coordinator) worked in partnership with the local Roxby Downs Woolworths and staff from the Roxby Downs Children’s Centre to establish a regular Community Food Donations Program. Through working together, the parties provide weekly fresh produce, bakery and chilled foods for collection from the Roxby Children’s Centre foyer. Food stock and storage is carefully managed by the team to ensure its freshness. Hub and Community Centre staff, as well as Anglicare’s Community Financial Counsellor, alert those in need to the program and identify when emergency food relief is needed. Thanks to the generosity of our local Woolworths, additional community food donations were welcomed to support families for the Christmas season. Woolworths also kindly donated additional fresh produce, Christmas ham, turkey, and cake. We’re incredibly grateful to the support of Woolworths and the Children’s Centre to make this initiative possible. It’s not only supporting those in need but has reduced the disposal of food items to landfill!
